One of the most rewarding careers anyone can have is in the care sector (the rewarding nature of the work is in fact one of the most commonly spoken about reasons to be a carer). The act of being a carer means you have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of the people you help day in day out. So it’s worth considering whether working in the care industry might be an appropriate career for you. Working in this sector, unlike many others, isn’t simply based on the quality of your CV but is as much, if not more, about the values you hold and the personality that you can bring to your work.

The need for care workers with talent and dedication to their career has never been greater and continues to increase year on year. There are many benefits to working in health and social care which you may not have thought of.
Working in care allows you to make a direct difference to people’s lives as well as build new skills and confidence in yourself. No day is the same as the last, you become a valuable part of a team of like-minded professionals, and it’s also a good way to get to know your community.

It’s also likely that you will be able to work towards a qualification at the same time as you gain practical experience from the job. Training courses, such as those we provide at ACI, are also great ways to further build up your skills level and confidence in your own abilities.

And speaking of qualifications and training- while any care qualifications you already have will be beneficial in a care role, remember that you don’t always need to be fully qualified to work in the care sector. Most employers can provide you with on-the-job training to help make certain that you have the necessary skill set to do the job effectively. There are also often numerous opportunities for you to work towards further care qualifications if you want to develop your career further.

One undeniable aspect of working in the care sector is the variety that the role brings. It may be a cliché to say that no two days are ever the same but broadly speaking this is the experience of most carers. You will be introduced to new people on an ongoing basis, and the role will certainly offer different challenges and experiences each day.

Being a carer is not only one of the most rewarding jobs you can do. It can also provide true job satisfaction, because providing care for someone on a regular basis allows you to see that you’re making a positive difference- in other words, a real, tangible difference to the quality of someone’s life. This is particularly the case when you are supporting someone whose condition is more complex. There are all sort of ways in which you can make that difference- for example, helping with the safe and correct administering of medicine, making sure they get to a hospital or doctor’s appointment on time, simply providing emotional support and companionship and many, many others.

At ACI we have many training courses geared towards care sector workers including Safeguarding Adults (Levels 1, 2 and 3), Handling Medication for Registered Nurses, Falls Awareness and many others which are relevant for people considering a career in the care sector or those who have already embarked on that journey and are looking to expand and enrich their skill set.
