Course Duration
Courses usually run from 10am to 1pm or 2pm to 5pm
Course Information
Training is delivered by a Registered Nurse with life like simulation models and equipment. Candidates undergo skills competency during the training. Theory and practical skills are assessed.
Candidates (with consent) can test each other’s blood glucose levels and simulate injection of insulin with an insulin injection training pen on a model to demonstrate ability to select correct amount of units and injection technique is assessed.
Who the Course is Aimed At
Health and Social Care workers responsible for caring for services users with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes who need to monitor blood glucose levels and administer Insulin via an injection pen

- What is Diabetes
- Signs and Symptoms – Type 1 and Type 2
- Understanding Diabetes and the Contributory Factors
- Complications of Diabetes and the Aims of Treatment
- Blood Glucose Monitoring (including practical)
- Hypers, Hypos and Ketoacidosis
- Understanding Carbohydrate Counting
- Administration of Insulin with an Insulin Injection pen
- Assessment of Learning
