Purpose-built for healthcare professionals, our Care Training Academy offers a focused, hands-on learning environment for up to 12 participants per session—ideal for meaningful interaction and personalised support.
Whether you're a care home worker, domiciliary carer, dentist, GP practice staff member, or allied health professional, our courses are designed with you in mind.
Course Duration
4 hours. The course normally runs from 10am to 2pm. This course can be held at our training academy or on site at the customer’s venue. The room for the training must be private as taking blood is an invasive procedure and students need the optimum learning environment to concentrate.
Course Information
This is a face-to-face training course that involves the theory and practical application and skills assessment for taking blood.
The course involves the use of realistic mannikins to draw blood and also the opportunity for candidates to take blood from each other (with consent) under the strict supervision of a Registered Nurse who is a qualified phlebotomist.
Maximum number of candidates is 6.

This course is for all grades of staff who are expected to take blood as part of their healthcare role.

- Legal and Professional issues associated with venepuncture.
- Legal requirements for good record keeping in relation to venepuncture.
- Preparing the client
- Anatomy and Physiology
- How to select and prepare suitable sites for venepuncture
- Infection Control
- Practical demonstration and practical assessment
- Care of the venepuncture site following the procedure
- Safe practice in handling and disposing of sharps
- Assessment of learning
